There's no rhyme or reason to these singles obviously. Just a list of the things that weren't on albums. I'll be honest, some of these were B-sides that I wasn't even that familiar with. Most of the these you can find towards the bottom of the list here.
None of those B-sides are worse than number 212- with the ridiculously long name. It's almost as bad as Paul's ode to fornicating in the road back on the White Album. The former is a B-side to Let It Be, quite the contrast between songs, and is just a bunch of nonsense that screams Yoko Ono-influence. It's more noises, than actual music.
I originally used Hey Jude as the reason I had to include the singles. I thought that would be the most consented pick of the singles. It isn't however my personal favorite. I LOOOVVVVEEE She Loves You. It's so catchy and upbeat. It gets me every time. The first thing that pops into my head when someone says, "the Beatles" is the four mop tops on the Ed Sullivan Show singing She Loves You. That's how ingrained into my brain that song is.
The Ballad of John and Yoko may be the most arrogant song ever written by a Beatle, but I find the upbeat tempo, mixed with dark, self-loathing lyrics to be something really fascinating. I don't know why, but I also really enjoy the fact that this song was made and played exclusively by John and Paul only, in a time where no one was getting along.
The Revolution single is the song most people think of when they see that particular title. Not to be confused with Revolution 1, which is a slowed down acoustic version on the White Album. Or, the pile of hot garbage that is Revolution 9 also on the WA; which has no connection to either song. Had they scrapped Revolution 1 in place of this Revolution, it would have been a very nice addition to that uh, shall we say, polarizing album.
We also can't forget about Day Tripper, which is one of the best guitar riffs of all time.
I would like Paperback Writer a whole hell of a lot more if not for that drawn-out PAAAAPER BAAAACK WRIIIIITER chorus. Every other aspect of that song is great, but just bogged down overall by those three words. It used to be that I couldn't even listen to the song it bothered me so much, but I've grown to appreciate every other aspect, despite its one major flaw.
