Dig Deep Into the Beatles Catalog

Image
The Beatles are the most iconic band in the world.  They have some of the most famous songs in the world,  ( Yesterday for example is the most covered song of all-time) but that's not what this is about.  I'm going to bet money that everyone that listens to music could list at least ONE Beatle song.  Even if you don't know the name, when you heard one, you would know one.  Odds are though, you know many.  You may not however recognize these overlooked gems.  (So there will be no Hey Jude , Help!, or Revolution .  Or if you are even more clever, no I Am the Walrus , While My Guitar Gently Weeps , or Eleanor Rigby .) Click the song title for a listen. Glass Onion : Not only does Ringo rock the drums, but Lennon name-drops several other Beatle songs in this little diddy.  No Reply : I love the way they shout "I SAW THE LIGHT" and "I NEARLY DIED".   I'm So Tired : The way this song is structured, you can almos...

Country Music Sucks

Image
After listening to country Christmas music for 8+ hours today I was reminded of how much I hated country music (Not that I really needed a reminder).  I have no problem with Christmas music, I can "jingle bell rock" with the best of them, but hearing that twang and yee-haws inserted in there was enough to make me cry. You know that something is wrong when fans of country "music" say that Christmas country sucks.  Now you can say that is because it's "Christmas" music, but in my mind the words don't matter as much as the sound of the music, so all the fiddles and banjos should make it tolerable for a country fan regardless if it's a Christmas song or not.  I realize most people may not look at music this way, but it's my rant and I need to rationalize it somehow dammit!  (For example, it doesn't matter how great lyrics are, if Macy Gray is singing it, it's pretty much going to sound like a cat getting pushed through a car engine.  ...

Enjoy This Moment Wrestling Fans

Look at this link.   I may need pinched.  Today is Monday, and as we found out with Christian's first title reign, this could be over tomorrow at the Smackdown TV tapings.  Yes, Punk has been the man for six months, but Daniel Bryan won the damn title last night!  Part of me wondered if he really would.  I mean Vince may thought it would have been funny to tease us, but holy crap it happened.  Like I said, he could very well lose it tomorrow, and be jobbing to Brodus Clay for the next year.  But just the fact that two "wrestlers" not sports-entertainers are at the top of the mountain is quite a thrill.  This is seriously comparable to the end of Wrestlemania XX when Benoit and Guerrero were the champs; just on a much smaller scale.  But it is that important.  The two workhorse champions getting recognized at the same time.  Congrats to both.  (One small side note, fellow ROH alumn Evan Bourne is the current ...

Chris Paul IS a Clipper

Image
The dust has settled and CP3 is in Clipper Land.  Honestly, I'm happy for the Clippers.  They have been the laughing stock of the NBA for their entire existence.  Now, they have a playoff team, two legitimate superstars, and will give the Heat a run for their money as the most talked about team.  So let's hope this reverses the Clipper curse. Or maybe it won't and Paul's knee will go out, and Griffin will be sidelined again.

Chis Paul as a Laker?

Image
I've been hearing for a while, and have been somewhat hesitant to endorse it.  (Like my opinion matters anyway)  Some combination of Odom/Bynum/Gasol for Chris Paul.  Maybe all three?  Maybe I'm trying to play it safe, but giving up all your bigs for a PG (albeit a superstar one) may not be the best idea.  Let's say Odom and Bynum got traded.  OK so Gasol is the lone quality big man.  Sure that can work no problem (since it's usually the case half-way through the season anyway).  What happens if Pau tears his ACL?  Does that mean you are starting Joe Smith and Derrick Caracter?  That's too risky for my tastes.  Now before any of you boneheads start saying, "Then you trade for Dwight Howard!"  How would that even be possible?  Kobe and Gasol for Howard?  No.  Paul and Kobe for Howard?  No that won't work (or make sense).  The rest of the bench for Dwight Howard?  That still would be unfair for O...

Bret vs. Shawn DVD Review

Probably the most talked about WWE DVD release since "The Rise and Fall of ECW" is the "Greatest Rivalries Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart".  And why not?  It's a dream come true for wrestling fans.  That being said, it is somewhat strange to see Shawn and Bret sitting beside each other for the interview.  (Funny side note, I tweeted Shawn asking him if it was awkward to sit next to Bret and give that interview, and he said no.  So there you go!) Overall it's a really nice way to close this chapter on their feud in and out of the ring.  They share some funny little stories and give their opposing points of views, and in the end... well let me just say SPOILER ALERT!  (If you don't want to know specifics stop reading now, and just go buy the thing.)  In the end they both admit that they truly wanted each others' respect, and the fact that they were each to "macho" to do so, helped to fuel the dislike between the two.  My one complaint i...
