Spotlight On The 2009 NBA Draft

First off I'm going to say that I don't think the '09 class is in the league of '96 , '84 or '03.  I just think that looking back on it there is a good chance we will say that it was a good one.  My first reason for thinking that is because my initial intentions for this post was to talk about the strong amount of point guards that came out of this draft.  And there were quite a few that I will mention shortly.  But as I researched this bad boy (or opened wikipedia, whichever comes first) I noticed there was/is some studs that needed mentioned as well.  The top 10 looked like this: 1. Blake Griffin 2. Hasheem Thabeet 3. James Harden (Plays like a Pg) 4. Tyreke Evans (Shooting guard in a Pg's body) 5. Ricky Rubio (Pg) 6. Jonny Flynn (Pg) 7. Stephen Curry (Pg) 8. Jordan Hill 9. Demar Derozan 10. Brandon Jennings (Pg) Immediately I'm sure you noticed and label Thabeet as a bust.  Blake Griffin is an obvious superstar now, but...

Swagger's In Trouble

Man talk about bad timing.  Jack Swagger got arrested at the worst possible time in his career.  If you don't know yet, go ahead and read here .The dude was set to be in a title match at Wrestle-freakin-mania, and now he will probably be sitting at home suspended during the show.  It does bring back memories of RVD's weed bust in '06, but the difference there is that at least Rob got to the top of the mountain, for however short of time.  His name is in the record books, case closed.  Swagger definitely won't be champ again anytime soon, and will probably drift aimlessly until his contract is expired.  I feel bad for Dutch.  The dude just got back on TV too!

The Dunk Contest Is Now The Chump Contest

When I heard the list of participants for this years contest, I'm sure I had the same reaction as most fans, "Who?"  I legitimately hadn't heard of half of the guys.  Why is this the case anymore? Why don't the superstars want to do it anymore?  Do they really think there is that much of an injury risk?  Are they just being little bitches?  I understand if they have been in it a couple of times and don't want to do it anymore, but what the hell is LeBron's excuse?  He even said he would before backing out.  Faried and Bledsoe are solid young stars, and could be the superstars of the future.  Remember a young Vince Carter in 2000?  That was awesome.  Or a young Kobe in 1997?  Young guns with potential is great for the contest, no name shumucks that never take off their warmups is not so much.  Which applies to the other guys in this year's contest, like I said, I have no clue who they are.  Apparently one...

Have A Nice Day Book Review

Image
Buy the book now!  I recently read Mick Foley's Have a Nice Day for legitimately the tenth time since it's release.  This book is pretty much considered the "holy grail" of all wrestling autobiographies, I'm not going to review it from a "this is what happened" standpoint.  No I'm going to look at it more on how well it holds up today, and what kind of impact it leaves with the reader many years after the fact.  It had been many years since I embarked on this literary tale of blood and sweat socks, so I was anxious to jump back in.  One thing I noticed was how dated some of the content is.  Mick regularly refers to the "Monday Night Wars" in current tense, and makes statements like "...this is why Raw is the hottest show on cable TV".  Both of these are understandable because when this book was written (1999) Raw was the coolest thing going, and the wars were all the rage.  This isn't a bad thing necessarily , it ju...
