Wrestlemania 28 Predictions and Thoughts

Image
Rock vs. Cena: Cena needs to win this.  Rock doesn't.  Plain and simple.  Rock winning doesn't accomplish anything.  Undertaker vs. HHH: Not sure what I think about two geezers going into the cell.  Either way I think Taker wins.  And by think, I mean know.  Maybe I'm being harsh, should be good.  CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho: This match is the Steamboat/Savage compared to Rock/Cena's Hogan/Andre.  (Did you catch all that?)  No one is paying to see this one, but will be the best match on the show that everyone leaves talking about.  I'm picking Punk.  Mainly because I'm not entirely convinced Jericho is back for the long haul.  Either way the fans are the real winners. Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus: This match could be very good.  Daniel Bryan is amazing and I hope they give them both plenty of time to go at it.  I never would have dreamed in a million years that Bryan Danielson would be in a main event o...

The One and Only Iron Man Match

Image
Any wrestling fan worth his/her salt, has seen Bret vs. Shawn at Wrestlemania XII.  It gets all sorts of accolades, been voted the "greatest 'mania match ever" yada yada yada. It's to the point now though, were there appears to be a backlash towards it, mainly seen  on the Internet. (Internet wrestling fans bashing something? NO WAY!?!)  The main argument is that it's boring, too many rest holds, and "a total snooze fest".  I can understand one of the typical "12 year old John Cena fans" thinking it was boring, but anyone who is a fan of professional wrestling/sports-entertainment should give this match it's just due.  To this day it's still probably my favorite match.  Too long?  When I watch it, it seems like the fastest hour of my life.  I love it, and am not bored for one second of it.  I first saw the match in the year 2000, (ironically right before the Rock vs. HHH Iron Man match at Judgment Day that year) and was absolute...

The Lakers Stole Another One

I can understand why some people hate the Lakers.  Yes they are brag-a-docious, but they seemingly rip people off in trades year after year.   If the Lakers traded Luke Walton and Jason Kapono for Ramon Sessions straight up, that still would be unfair to the Cavs.  But not only did they do that, they also got Christian Eyenga.  (Not a real big gain, but still.)  This deal is ridiculous.  Now, I realize Sessions isn't going to be the savior that Chris Paul was supposed to be, but he is definitely starter-quality that they Lakers sorely needed.  Luke Walton has played in nine games this year,  averaging about 1 point and 1 rebound a game.  Kapono isn't much better.  And did I mentioned the Lakers SAVED money making this trade?  The Pau Gasol trade was considered robbery at the time, but in actuality Marc Gasol turned into a damn fine Center, and that trade wasn't so lopsided after all.  Could this happen here?  Hell...

The Final Analysis Prayer

I received this in the mail yesterday and thought it was pretty powerful: P eople are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. I f you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. I f you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. I f you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. W hat you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. I f you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. T he good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. G ive the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. I n the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. -credited to Mother Teresa

Nigel McGuinness Tribute

Image
If you're a wrestling fan (or not, it doesn't matter) go to this site and watch this video: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/307482471/the-last-of-mcguinness?ref=card This documentary looks fantastic, and I proudly helped one of my favorite wrestlers out.  So do the same if you're a Nigel fan.  I'm sure a chunk of  wrestling fans may not know who Nigel is.  Some may know him as "Desmond Wolfe" from TNA wrestling.  Regardless, this very talented man had to retire due to injuries.  It's a shame because he was one of the most entertaining and talented grapplers I ever had the privilege of watching.  His amazing ROH title reign featured one amazing match after another.  Any time the card read "McGuinness vs. Danielson"  (WWE's Daniel Bryan) you could bet your bottom dollar that you not only would see a great match, you would probably be seeing the match of the year; in any wrestling organization.  Thanks for everythin...

One More Nutcase On the Lakers?

Rasheed Wallace is on the Lakers radar.  I've read conflicting reports as to whether he has actually signed, or they are just looking at him.  All I can say is WOW.  If they are going to do this, they may as well go all out.  Not only with an Arenas signing too, but trade all the current roster except Metta World Peace and Matt Barnes for DeMarcus Cousins, Andray Blatche, Michael Beasley, JR Smith, Eddy Curry, Stephen Jackson, DeShawn Stevenson, Delonte West, Jamaal Tinsley, and Kenyon Martin.  This my friends, would be the greatest bonehead team ever assembled.  I'm pretty sure they would have to forfeit the rest of the season due to a mass murder at practice.

Voting For All-Stars Part Two (The Reserves)

As I mentioned in part one,  I didn't have too big of beef with the starters.  Carmelo is somewhat of a question mark, but since he's not past is prime I'll let him slide.   So I was interested to see if the coaches could keep up the good work.  And surprisingly they had a few blunders.  Here are the guys I totally disagreed with: Paul Pierce- This was ridiculous.  Even PP was surprised by this.  Honestly I would have picked Ray Allen, who carried the load while Pierce was out.  Even Rondo is more deserving, and he has missed a few games this year.  Steve Nash- Yeah his assist numbers are good, and he's doing things that no other 89 year old PG should do, but he's not the 4th best PG in the West, (and according to the voting he is) so he shouldn't have made it.  Dirk Nowitzki- Sure the dude has picked it up the last few games, but he admitted he wasn't ready to play at the beginning of the season, then took off games to g...

The Ultimate NBA Fantasy Draft Part II

If you didn't catch part one click here. I'm a big believer in chemistry over talent.  Which is why in rounding out the starting lineups for teams, I didn't always pick the next logical choice based off of talent.  I like the teams that compliment one another, and win because of it.  I mean why get LeBron when you already got DWade?  I mean they cancel each other out.  Oh, I guess that did happen.  Well, how about this one: why draft Steph Curry when you already got Monta Ellis... hmm I guess not a good one either.  Why draft Ricky Rubio and Johnny Flynn with back to back picks?  Crap that's the worst one yet.  Well the NBA isn't perfect I guess, and I'm sure neither is this list, but let's check it out.  (Note: I didn't write out the order of the rest of the picks, just the starting lineup for each team, and my grade on how well the lineup will work out.) Bobcats- PG Kirk Hinrich SG Tony Allen SF LeBron James PF Dejuan Blair C Tys...

The Ultimate NBA Fantasy Draft Round One

Image
A lot of teams would like to hit the reset button on their current teams.  Start over from scratch, and hope for the best.  OK maybe not "a lot" but a few would.  I sometimes think, "If a team could select any player to start a franchise with, who would it be?"  So instead of thinking, I decided to write it all down.  Many would say that it would just go purely off of talent, and it would to an extent, but I think there would be more to it.  A struggling small market franchise would want Kobe just because he is the biggest name in basketball. That's not a backhanded compliment at Kobe, but long term you wouldn't want to build around Kobe.  He would be great for your team in more of a business sense.  More bang for the buck right now.  A large market like NYC would probably chance a younger, possibly lesser talented star, just due to the fact the people will come regardless because it's MSG, and they have a long-term investmen...

Favorite Movies

Image
These are the flicks that I would want with me on a deserted island.  Assuming that island had electricity, a TV, and DVD player. Return of the King: This movie is iconic in so many ways.  Sure it won best picture, but even if it didn't, it's a epic in every sense of the word.  Never in my life have I been so captivated at a movie theater.  I had just seen the first two right before this was released in theaters, and just went to see it for something to do.  I instantly fell in love, and haven't looked back.  Batman Begins: When I left the theaters after watching this one, I uttered one of the biggest understatements of my life, "I think that may have been better than the first Batman." (1989)  Holy crap is it ever.  I had no hopes whatsoever that this would be good going in, and was blown away by what I saw.  Still to this day, my favorite super-hero movie, and I still feel the best super-hero movie, as I've ranted about in the pa...
