Favorite Movies

These are the flicks that I would want with me on a deserted island.  Assuming that island had electricity, a TV, and DVD player.

Return of the King: This movie is iconic in so many ways.  Sure it won best picture, but even if it didn't, it's a epic in every sense of the word.  Never in my life have I been so captivated at a movie theater.  I had just seen the first two right before this was released in theaters, and just went to see it for something to do.  I instantly fell in love, and haven't looked back.

Batman Begins: When I left the theaters after watching this one, I uttered one of the biggest understatements of my life, "I think that may have been better than the first Batman." (1989)  Holy crap is it ever.  I had no hopes whatsoever that this would be good going in, and was blown away by what I saw.  Still to this day, my favorite super-hero movie, and I still feel the best super-hero movie, as I've ranted about in the past. (Ironically written one year ago today.)  Amazing re-telling and in depth perspective of an already well-known story.

Dumb and Dumber: This movie just makes me happy.  I don't die laughing at it any more.  I do still laugh, but it's more nostalgia.  If I was all alone on the island, this would help the days seem not so long.

Transformers: Again, another movie I had low expectations for, and was flabbergasted by how good it was.  This movie gets me all pumped up, and just a good adrenaline ride.

Star Trek: Wasn't sure how this one was going to be either, but it exceeded all my expectations and again is an action flick, but there is more substance to it than most.  Great movie.

X2: X-Men First Class rivals this one for me, but as of right now, this is my favorite X-Men movie.  This was the standard-bearer for superhero movies for me, until Batman Begins knocked it off the throne two years later.  Still holds up great nearly 10 years later, and you realize how much X3 misses Nightcrawler after a rewatch of this (among many other things.)

Maybe just for irony's sake, I should put Cast Away on here?
