ROH Nostalgia, Courtesy of WWE.com (What the hell?)

The above link got me thinking.  (What is the link?  Well you can see in the title it's "Ring of Honor Influence" and it's on WWE.com!  Obviously it covers the ROH alumni, and how they are having somewhat of a takeover in WWE the last year or two.)  ROH at one point easily boasted one of the greatest rosters ever assembled.  You can debate on which year, but for me, it was mid-2005.  Not all the guys were full timers, and some spent considerable time in Japan, Europe, or wherever during their ROH tenure, but all contributed to the ROH product in some way, shape, or form.

Check it out:

CM Punk
Austin Aries
Samoa Joe
Low Ki
Roderick Strong
Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan)
Homicide
James Gibson (Jamie Noble)
Colt Cabana
AJ Styles
Christopher Daniels
Jimmy Rave
Jay Lethal
Nigel McGuinness (Desmond Wolfe)
Claudio Castagnoli (Antonio Cesaro)
Alex Shelley
Spanky (Brian Kendrick)
Delirious
Matt Sydal (Evan Bourne)

The reason I picked mid-2005 was simple.  Styles and Daniels had just returned from their ROH hiatuses, CM Punk would soon be WWE-bound, not long after that, Spanky and Gibson would soon follow.  By the start of the next year Low-Ki would be gone, and Jay Lethal along with Alex Shelley would leave for TNA full-time.

Those departures would be filled Chris Hero, Davey Richards, and later on Steenerico and Tyler Black (Seth Rollins).  Not bad pickups by any means, but none would have the ROH legacy like CM Punk and Low-Ki.

In summation, I look back on that era of ROH rather fondly, and watch DVD's from then quite frequently.  Look into it sometime if you are a newer ROH fan who isn't familiar with their rich history.  (Also you can use this link as a reference to discover some of the great ROH matches from the past.)  Also definitely read that WWE article if you haven't already.  (I'm sure that anyone reading this probably has already gushed over it numerous times, but still.)

My favorite part of the whole article was this Daniel Bryan quote:  And I’m really excited for [WWE NXT Superstar] Sami Zayn to come up, too, because he shared that journey with a lot of us.

OLE!
