A Hero's Welcome
My initial reaction was like everyone elses', "Are you freakin' kiddin' me?!?" Honestly who cares if he doesn't have a six-pack? He's 6'5", so he will look imposing, he also can talk. Oh and a little thing called wrestle.
There definitely could be more to the story than any of us know, I mean he may have been difficult to deal with or something like that, and if that's the case, it would be understandable for them to release him. After rationalizing it, a second thought then appears:
"HE CAN GO BACK TO RING OF HONOR!!!!!"
He's already booked for everyone's favorite promotion PWG, but just think about ROH for a minute. He has a rich history with the company, he would still be on TV (good for him since his stock wouldn't drop any, and good for us so we could still watch him), and most importantly give some new match ups that ROH sorely needs.
ROH has been improving. I won't deny that. They are going back to things that even make them look like ROH again, like the black ropes, black ring post, red turnbuckle pad etc. They are bringing in more outsiders, to give it more of that "any match up can happen here" feel. This isn't entirely true, but it's very refreshing compared to ROH in 2011-12. So things are looking up.
You put Chris Hero in the equation and that makes ROH even more enjoyable. If the American Wolves are indeed leaving, a huge hole will be left, and not that Hero can fill it all himself, but he would do the job better than any other current indy talent.
Hero vs. Elgin is an interesting hard-hitting affair. I'm sure it happened, but Steen vs. Hero seems fresh. Roderick vs. Hero has happened a bunch, but it's been a few years, so that would even be OK. How about Paul London vs. Hero? I'm sure London will keep coming back for the immediate future, that would be cool. (And I know it never happened in ROH, but it could have very well have happened in PWG.)
So there are those interesting match ups, and so more of course, but I would think the first thing you would have him do is chase Adam Cole for the title to capitalize on Hero's momentum. I wouldn't think you would have him win it, but just to give the crowd Hero main eventing to wet their appetites.
I would think going to ROH would be his best route, he can still do the PWG shows, and maybe he could bad mouth WWE on ROH TV or something to make him different. He's been there, and he knows it's no good. Or he could be Sweet and Sour Hero for all I care, just get him to ROH!
Chris is awesome!
