Spotlight On El Generico *Updated*
*UPDATE*
Guess who was signed by the WWE? Our beloved masked man. How will it turn out for him? It's hard to say. But now is definately the right time for an indy workhorse to attempt to make it big in WWE. OLE!

There is alot of talk in the wrestling world lately about who the "best in the world" is. Whether it be CM Punk, Austin Aries, or Daniel Bryan; all three are great candidates. One other guy that should rightly be up there too but isn't due to lack of being in a big promotion is: El Generico.
If you don't know who Generico is, here is a highlight reel for ya. Pay close attention to number 8, so incredibly innovative. Yes, his moves are cool, and yes his name does mean "Generic". Did I also mention he's a comedic wrestler who pretends to be from Tijuana, Mexico, can't speak English, (but obviously is white as can be, and Canadian).
Almost sounds like a recipe for disaster, but it's not to be. Generico works his ass off in the ring. He sells as good as anyone, and has great ring presence and charisma. Which is actually quite impressive since he wears a mask, which tends to make wrestlers not as visible emotionally, but El Generico transcends the mask, and you know exactly what he is thinking and feeling.
He has just enough comic presence not to get annoying, and of course his catch phrase OLE OLE OLE OLE is a favorite in the indy circles. Which brings me to my next point, the dude wrestles everywhere! ROH, Dragon Gate USA, Chikara, PWG, and I'm sure coming to a town near you. I personally saw him wrestle Sara Del Ray in a fantastic, totally believable psychology-wise, match in Chikara. Then later that night, had a wild tag team street fight with BJ Whitmer vs. Kevin Steen and Jimmy Jacobs in ROH.
Maybe he doesn't want to go to WWE, and I don't know if I can blame him. I'm sure he wouldn't be used correctly. But it is a shame that not many people know of him. Even in ROH it took a while for him to get noticed, even if he had one of the best matches on the card. Let's face it, his competition was: Nigel McGuinness, Bryan Danielson, Tyler Black, Austin Aries, Briscoe Brothers, etc. Anyone could get lost in that collection of all-stars. However the past few years, he really has broken through to an elite level. Whether it was his year-long feud with Kevin Steen, or his way too short-lived television title reign, Generico is making his mark one OLE at a time.
