The Dark Knight Rises
What can I say? After going totally in the opposite direction with my Dark Knight rampage from last year, I have nothing but good things to say about The Dark Knight Rises.
I don't know if this movie will win Academy Awards, but I do know that you won't see a better movie this year. It's also a shame that this movie will always be associated with that psycho in Colorado, and I feel terrible for all those people who had to endure that traumatic event. I also feel terrible about not being able to take my sister to this movie because I know she would have enjoyed it so much. Knowing her, I'm sure she would have called it, "Bad ass." Keep in mind, I had all this in my head while going to see it, and wondered if it would drag the movie down for me? Instead it really lifted my spirits, and made me really happy for the first time in quite a while.
And what a kickass movie it was. I've went back and forth on whether I should put some spoilers in here to help sell my points, but I've decided against it. I will say that it answered every question that I could possibly have had.
Nothing was held back in this epic. The movie had all the hugeness (probably not a real word, but works for me) of The Dark Knight, with the simple organic elements of Batman Begins. Can't really explain that one without giving things away, but as my dear readers know, I liked the grounded nature of Begins more so than the giant scope of TDK. Well this movie made both work, in my eyes anyway, and that is a huge feat to win me over (ask my wife if you don't believe me).
So the greatest superhero trilogy of all-time is done, where do we go from here? I like the direction the new X-Men is going, but pretty much everything will probably come up second fiddle to Nolan's work of art. Good luck trying to re-launch Batman. What a daunting task some pure shmuck is going to have. Hopefully they will just call it "classic" and leave it alone. But I doubt it.
