Raw 1000 Thoughts
I must say that I was impressed. I had a terrible feeling Raw 1000 was going to fall flat on its face. Just due to the fact it was getting kicked off with DX made me want to hurl. I could write a whole blog on this, but I hate DX from 2006-forward. It doesn't work for me, plain and simple (Glowsticks really?)
When the boys in green came out, I tweeted, "If '97 DX could see DX now, they would piss all over them." So they started out doing their not-funny antics, when suddenly the light broke through and shined on us wrestling fans. Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, and X-Pac came out too. I've been a huge X-Pac mark since day one, so him alone was great to see. The New Age Outlaws were just gravy. I thoroughly enjoyed the (hopefully) one night reunion.
HHH and Stephanie lured Heyman into accepting the challenge of HHH against Brock for Summerslam in yet another fairly entertaining segment. I'm interested to see if those two mesh well together. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think that Brock is tad sloppy at times, including in his heyday.
AJ left Daniel Bryan to be the GM of Raw. This was ridiculous, and a perfect example of something getting over that Vince didn't expect too, so he decides to shove it down our throats for good measure (Example: Ryder, Zack).
Rey and Sin Cara were on the same team in a 6 man tag match. Who wouldn't kill for those two to feud with each other? Well I'm sure Vince wouldn't, but you would think Rey could help Sin Cara right?
How long before Ziggler goes face? Honestly!?!
Dude Love made an appearance in what had to be the first time since '98. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) I love The Dude. I love Foley in general. He's one of the few guys that can still make a big impact without even setting foot in the ring. Just let the man talk. He will deliver.
Undertaker came back, I'm assuming for a one time shot (for now anyway)?
References to Mae Young's hand, GTV, and the Trish/HHH doggy style recreation were all great blasts from the past that I'm sure flew waaaaaaaaay over the heads of 98% of all John Cena's fans.
Speaking of which, the main event was sure to ruin my evening. I just knew ole boyscout Cena would win the title. Man it was gonna suc... Wait a minute! For the first time ever I love the Big Show, who interfered so the match was thrown out and Punk retains. Hell yes! Rock comes out for the save, goes for the People's Elbow on Big Show and is annihilated by CM Punk. Yes my friends, Punk is heel again (for a portion of the crowd anyway).
This could be awesome. A Punk vs. Rock would be epic just due to the mic work in the build up. Big Show is taken seriously by no one, so Punk is now the main heel because I'm sure Daniel Bryan will be stuck feuding with AJ and Charlie Sheen? So let the Rock, Sheamus, Cena, and Mysterio, and whoever be the babyfaces. And to top it off, Punk will probably get more vicious and let off some pipebombs that we have sorely missed for many months now. Let's face it, Punk's edge was lost long ago and this was sorely needed.
Overall, this Raw was probably the second best this year behind the Raw after Wrestlemania. And if the crowd was as hot as that night, it probably would have been better. Good job WWE. I can't believe I just wrote that.
One question, where was Stone Cold?
