A New Breed of Champion

Some people may be thinking "What's Ring of Honor?"  Simple.  It's a no-nonsense wrestling organization that focuses on the in-ring product instead of gimmicks, storylines, etc.

The one man who personifies this more than anyone right now, is Davey Richards.  I've already stated that Davey Richards is one of the best wrestlers alive. So it should come to no surprise to anyone that Davey became Ring of Honor champion this past summer.  He could easily be confused with an MMA fighter due to his brutal kicks and strikes; Davey is anything but fake.  He is skilled in many forms of martial arts and combat fighting.  And yes he is a professional wrestler!

Watch this video.  Richards is a bad ass from the word "go".  I went to an ROH event back in '06, and I had never heard of Davey at the time, after watching his match you can believe me I never forgot his name.  His intensity was incredible.  ROH released a DVD of his greatest matches you can get by going here.  (Match for match, it may be the best wrestling DVD I own.)

Davey is everything that is right with pro wrestling.  He is basically the anti-John Cena.  Sure he will never be a main stream draw like Cena, but he earns more kudos in one match than Cena would in a year.

So if your a fan of wrestling or not, give ROH a try.  (Television listings)  If nothing else, just watch Davey Richards wrestle and try and tell me you've seen any champion, wrestler or otherwise like that on TV.

Here's a look at the title history of the Ring of Honor World Championship.
