NBA Awards
The awards were handed out, and here's how they went down.
MVP: Derrick Rose gets it. I know everyone jumped on his bandwagon after the all-star break, but I was touting it in December and finally wrote about it in January (link). Great season for Rose. Exceeded all expectations for his career, let alone for this season. If the Bulls get to, or win the finals, that's just gravy at this point.
6th Man: Lamar Odom, the Laker bashing is in full affect, but that's irrelevant in this discussion. Yes Odom started a lot, but it wasn't due to circumstances in his control. He wouldn't have started at all, if a certain center had more stable knees, then the argument against would be virtually nonexistent. Good for you Lamar, now you have plenty of time to make little Kardashian babies. (See there is a silver lining in everything.)
Coach of the Year: Thibs, hands down, there is no other argument here. Bulls best record in the NBA holy crap! Great job.
Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard, he is a beast. Will he be a purple and gold beast? Another topic for another day, but he is an elite defender.
Most Improved Player: Kevin Love. Now here is my beef. Kevin Love is a great player. But in my mind, the most improved player should be someone who actually improved, and was not awarded more playing time. That's not the same thing necessarily. Love probably would have done this last year had he not been in and out of the starting lineup, and all the other screwy things Kurt Rambis did with the Wolves last year. This should have went to someone like Dorell Wright, Kris Humphries, (Not for getting Kim Kardashian, he actually does play ball too. How many Kardashian references can I make in one NBA blog?) or LaMarcus Aldridge, who is probably the best bet here. If not, throw in Russell Westbrook's name for good measure, or even Derrick Rose.
Rookie of the Year: Blake Griffin. Was it even close?
