The E&C Dynasty

edge and christian glasses 300x219 Edge Tribute The Rated R Era (Part 1)

A lot has happened to the former tag team that reeked of awesomeness the last few weeks.  Edge had to retire due to a recurring neck injury.  Christian got to finally live his dream as the heavyweight champ, (in WWE) only to lose it at the following Smackdown.  So essentially they are going in two entirely different directions.  What's in store for the future?  Who knows.  Let's just go to the past instead shall we?

EDGE:
My first memories of Edge were as 1/3 of the Brood, and they were commanded by the evil satanic Undertaker.  I just remembered he smiled a really goofy looking smile the whole time he wasn't actually wrestling.

Eventually the Brood broke away from the Ministry of Darkness, and started getting more and more airtime.  Now at the time I was only 13, and knew nothing about wrestling.  I did slowly figure out though, that not every wrestler gets to be the WWF champion.  They had to possess decent in-ring skills, but most importantly they had to have charisma and "the look."

In my little brain, Edge had that.    Edge was just cool-looking.  Maybe it was his Shawn Michael's-esque ring attire, the blonde hair?  All I know is, I saw Edge, and I thought he could represent the company as champion.

He did that and more before it all came to an abrupt end.  Really what did he have left to do though?  Multiple world titles?  Check.  Main event numerous Wrestlemanias?  Check.   Wrestle all the greats of the past and present?  Check.  He went out on top, and rightfully so.

Christian:
Christian unfortunately has always lived in the shadow of Edge.  No he didn't really jump out at you.  In fact, he was dressed like Gangrel once upon a time.  (not a good thing)  He didn't seem to speak much, and Edge had an Intercontinental title reign during their tag team days.  Not exactly saying much for the "CLB."  Unfortunately for him, the company looked at Edge as the "golden boy" and Christian was more or less the mid-card guy at best.

The fact is, that none of the stereotypes aimed at Christian were true.  He wasn't Marty Jannetty.  The truth was/is, he is carving out his own niche.  After the E&C breakup, he stalled for a while.  That is, until a little rub from The Rock.  He was then on his way.  Christian established himself at the top of the mid-card on Raw.  He got to wrestle against all the top guys at one point or another.  He even had mini-feuds with Goldberg, (Best Goldberg spear ever.) and Batista.  He also would tear the house down with Y2J, HBK, and RVD on many occasions.

Then the big one came.  It looked like Captain Charisma was going to feud with John Cena at the height of his popularity.  All was going well as this video  shows.  Then for some reason the rug was yanked out from underneath him, he was drafted to Smackdown, and was wandering aimlessly.

His contract soon expired, and he jumped ship to TNA right after the fact.  TNA's biggest coup at that point, and also started WWE in the habit of taking a person off TV months before the their contract expires, if they know they aren't resigning, so that they don't show up on Impact a week after being on Raw like Christian did in November of '05.

He had a great run in TNA solidifying the fact that he can become the face of the company, and is not just a "mid-card comedy act" as JJ called him during their angle.  Once his contract was up in TNA he took a chance and resigned with the WWE.  And honestly who can blame him?  TNA was really bad at that point, (and still is) and he got out when the time was right.  When he signed with them initially, TNA looked to be on the verge of something great, instead a year and one Vince Russo later, the company was a border-line joke, and not something I would be proud to call my employer.

So Christian was back in WWE, and was punished for a while.  No big surprise there.  He crawled back to where he was before he left; firmly at the top of the mid-card.  With Edge in the main events, it was only natural that eventually Christian would work his way into his angles at some point.  How ironic that point was.

I assumed like everyone that one day we would see Edge vs. Christian for the world championship at some point.  Well as we all now know it will never happen.  So Edge goes down, Christian is inserted into the main event and finally wins the big one.... only to lose it at the following Smackdown.

Hopefully he can win it back at some point.  If not, it will be forever tainted with the "transitional champion" label.  And to add insult to injury, the only reason it was him being chosen to get the belt was that Edge was the one who was injured.  In a nutshell, it's kind of like how Rey Mysterio won the World Championship only because Eddie Guerrero died.  A very tainted win.  Mysterio fans will argue it's untrue, and that he did when it again last year to prove that point.  So using that same argument, I do hope that he gets another shot at carrying the title.

Christian is immensely talented, in the ring, on the mic, whatever you need he can deliver.  Show the man some respect, or he'll drop a peeparoonie on your ass!

So Edge and Christian are forever united in the wrestling world, and in the span of a couple of weeks, their careers are going in very different directions.  When it's all said and done, they will be remembered not only as one of the greatest tag teams ever, but two of the greatest sports-entertainers ever.

I haven't even mentioned yet how funny these two cats are.  (Shame on me.)  Let's look at some of their E&C greatest hits:
