Nirvana Definitely Wasn't A Lounge Act
On September 24th of this year, "Nevermind" will be 20 years old. I don't think any rock, or music fan in general for that matter can debate it's significance. It's one of the greatest albums ever, period. Though that's not what I want to talk about today. I want to talk about one song in particular.
Any true Nirvana fan will already know what song I'm talking about just due to the play on words I used in the title.
Lounge Act
is a great song. If you have the album, pop it in, or click on it depending which method you use, and turn it to song nine.
What I'm not here to do is tell you it's the best song on the CD. It's not. The mainstream audience will unamiously praise "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as the greatest. While a little less casual fan may argue for "Come As You Are," "In Bloom," or "Lithium." Or the more hardcore fan may suggest that "Drain You," "Polly," or "On A Plain" is the best. I understand all those points, I just want to point out that "Lounge Act" is a really good overlooked Nirvana song (at least on Nevermind anyway.)
It's understandable that it is overshadowed; being on the same album as the monster anthem "Teen Spirit," I just feel it needs some love. It's got a killer bass line at the beginning, great Cobain lyrics (I'll arrest myself, I'll wear a shield) , and the raw Nirvana energy that you expect. My favorite point being at the 1:32 mark when he screams, "Truth! - covered in security I can't let you smother me". Great stuff. All wrapped up into a sweet 2:37 punk rock song.
